So it’s taken me this long to figure out how to force Gmail to load in the old “clunkier” interface by default. As much as I love newfangled Javascript hawtness, the fact that keyboard shortcuts (in Webkit) require me to click somewhere on the page (presumably to give focus to the page?) before I can actually use them seems to somewhat defeat the purpose of keyboard shortcuts. True, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I enjoy my mouse-less lifestyle when I can “afford” to live in it. Now if only Tumblr had keyboard shortcuts for posting…
Oh, and for the sake of completeness, you can force Gmail to load the old interface just by switching to English (UK) from English (US). Or to any other language. Apparently only Yanks who can’t spell “colour” get the Ajax improvements. Go figure.
